After a lovely Easter break we are looking forward to starting a fresh summer term and welcoming a few new arrivals into the pre-school family. This term we will be learning all about ‘Living Things’, studying nature and all that we are so lucky to be surrounded by here at pre-school. We will be looking at plants and how they grow, spending our time in our pre-school garden which thanks to the hard work of our committee is ready to planted up with flowers and vegetables that we will be able to look after and watch grow with the children. We will also spend time looking at insects, butterflies and other wildlife and learning in lots of new and exciting ways. It promises to be a great term!

Our latest Coronavirus update
We have worked tirelessly over the months leading up to the re-opening to put measures in place to ensure the safety of those that attend the setting as well as the staff, we’ve adapted our procedures without having to compromise on the level of care and education we are able to offer the children.
We’ve welcomed many new faces who have quickly settled into the setting, and it has been lovely to have familiar faces back in pre school as well. We have been utilising our fantastic outdoor space and have had trips to the nearby woods and beach which the children have loved. We are so proud of the way the children have adapted and coped with the ‘new normal’ due to Coronavirus, it has been so lovely to see how happy the children have been to be back!
Our Coronavirus update
Firstly, we would like to thank you for all your for the wishes of support, love, and appreciation throughout the duration of the pandemic. It has been a difficult and uncertain time we have all found ourselves in, however the unity of our community has been humbling.
With that in mind we wanted to give you a brief update in regards to our phased reopening.
Since the beginning of lockdown we have been carefully planning and working out ways that the preschool can reopen in the safest way possible. The safety of our children and our staff is of the upmost importance to us and therefore the decision to reopen is not one we have taken lightly.
We are currently planning to reopen to a smaller number of children the week commencing 22nd June, in line with the Government's plan for schools and early years settings. Currently that means we will be reopening to those starting school in September, vulnerable children and those with an EHCP.
We have a range of plans in place to make the phased return as safe as possible. These include:
- Smaller groups, only 12 per session. With those groups divided into two separate groups. Each group of twelve will attend for two consecutive days with a day for deep cleaning in between.
- These groups will stay together at all times with the same members of staff.
- We will close on a Wednesday to allow for a deep clean between sessions.
- Temperatures of children & staff will be taken on entry and at regular intervals throughout the day.

We are all greatly looking forward to being able to welcome the children back into preschool. During this difficult time transition back into setting may be daunting for some children. This is to be expected for all of us. We would like to assure you that all the staff at preschool will do everything in our ability to ensure that all children have plenty of time and a loving environment to restart their school environment. We will, as always, communicate with you fully, openly and promptly as plans evolve and change as more information from the government becomes available.
We love Sports 4 Tots!
Each week we have the brilliant Nick from Sports 4 Tots into the pre school, something which has become a favourite time of the week for lots of the children.
Sports 4 Tots recognise the increasing rise in childhood obesity and believe it is paramount that physical activity and sport play an important role in a child’s life from an early age. They aim not only to improve balance, co – ordination and agility but also to improve social skills such as communication, listening, sharing, following instructions and being part of a team.
Come rain or shine Nick keeps the children engaged with a different sport each week including basketball, hockey, football, cricket, tennis and many more.
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!
The sun decided to make a very welcome appearance just in time for our annual beach day at Maenporth- phew!
We know how lucky we are to have the beach on our doorstep, so taking the pre-school to the beach for the day just has to be done! And what a day we had…with sandcastle competitions, races and fun galore.
The children loved exploring the rock pools where we found crabs, and along the beach we discovered a cuttlefish and jellyfish, both of which caused utter fascination.
We rounded the day off with some ice-lollies, which were of course a particular favourite with the children!

A trip to Trebah!
Each year we pop on our wellies, don our backpacks and of we go to the beautiful Trebah Gardens for a day of exploring!
This year we started off the trip with a visit to the Koi carp pond at the top of the garden. The children were fascinated spotting all the different carp up so close. From there we followed one of the brilliant scavenger hunts that go throughout the garden, weaving our way through the plants, trees, waterfalls and ponds, spotting all the wildlife along the way.
The children did so well walking all the way to the beach at the bottom of the garden where we had a well deserved rest and demolished our packed lunches! The children had a great time doing a scavenger hunt on the beach before making our way back up through the ‘Bamboozle’ maze.
We definitely think we sent home some very tired children after a fun packed day!
Squashbox Theatre come to visit!
We just love when Craig from Squashbox Theatre comes to visit us at the pre school, he never fails to make the children (and us!) laugh with his fantastic puppets and they’re hilarious tales!
This year was the turn of ‘The Sea Show’ where we followed the tale of Morwenna the ‘beautiful’ Mermaid (Ahem, Craig!), were squirted at by the cheeky sea squirt and danced along with the brilliant songs. The children absolutely loved it, if you haven’t already seen Craig and one of his Squashbox shows then it is a real must!
